Marketing Leadership Transition

Stronger marketing leadership.
A capable team.
A clear handover in six months.

I work alongside your leadership team as your fractional CMO to clarify your strategy, align your people and equip someone inside your business to lead the marketing operation forward.

Together, we establish what needs to change, who is responsible and how progress will be measured—with a planned handover from the beginning.

For established businesses, franchise groups and companies with multiple locations across Australia and the USA.

Discuss Your Marketing Leadership

A six-month engagement with Cam Roberts. Strategy, team direction and accountability.

Senior judgement. Internal capability.

Your business has marketing activity.
But who is leading it?

Your agency has its priorities. Your team has a growing task list. Someone is looking after the website, someone is running ads and someone else is following up leads.

But the bigger decisions still land on your desk.

What should you invest in? What should you stop? Are the people doing the work focused on the right things?

You need a clear strategy, people who understand their responsibilities and someone experienced enough to challenge the decisions that are holding you back.

  • You receive reports but still lack a clear view of what is working.
  • Your employees and suppliers are pulling in different directions.
  • Marketing decisions depend too heavily on you.
  • You can see opportunities but struggle to turn them into priorities.
  • You want stronger internal capability and a defined path to taking ownership.

That is the purpose of Marketing Leadership Transition.

I step in to lead—
with your team’s future ownership in mind.

For six months, I work with your leadership team as your fractional CMO.

We review your marketing, agree the commercial priorities and give your people a clear direction. I challenge the strategy, review performance and help your internal lead develop the judgement and confidence to manage the work.

Your employees, agencies and contractors carry out the implementation. My role is to make sure they understand the priorities, the standards and the results they are accountable for.

From the start, we work towards a marketing operation your business can carry forward.

Website builds, campaign management, content production, automation implementation, advertising spend, software, salaries and recruitment placement fees are not included.

Strategy

Know what to prioritise, what to question and where to focus your resources.

Team

Clarify responsibilities, identify capability gaps and align the people doing the work.

Ownership

Develop an internal lead who can manage priorities, review performance and keep the team accountable.

A clear beginning. Practical milestones.
A planned handover.

We agree the priorities around your business, your team and the problems that need attention. The engagement follows three stages.

01

Indicative timing: Months 1–2

Stage 1 — Assess and set direction

We examine your marketing strategy, performance reporting, customer journey, team and external partners.

Together, we identify the biggest gaps and agree what to stop, improve and prioritise. We also nominate the internal person who will take increasing ownership.

Outputs

  • An agreed marketing assessment.
  • A prioritised action plan.
  • Clear responsibilities and decision-making roles.
  • A baseline scorecard.
  • An agreed handover objective.
02

Indicative timing: Months 3–4

Stage 2 — Direct and develop

Your team and suppliers execute the agreed priorities under strategic direction. We review progress, challenge decisions and address capability gaps.

Your internal lead participates in the decisions and performance reviews, building their ability to manage the operation.

Outputs

  • Regular reviews of progress and performance.
  • Clear briefs and priorities for the people implementing.
  • Guidance on team structure and hiring needs.
  • A consistent reporting and accountability rhythm.
  • Increasing ownership by your internal lead.
03

Indicative timing: Months 5–6

Stage 3 — Transfer and consolidate

Your internal lead takes greater responsibility for planning, team coordination and performance reviews.

We assess what they can manage independently, address remaining gaps and agree the priorities they will carry forward.

Outputs

  • An agreed operating rhythm.
  • Documented responsibilities and reporting expectations.
  • A forward marketing plan.
  • A handover review identifying remaining risks and actions.

Timing and priorities are agreed at the start and reviewed as the engagement progresses. Delivery depends on access to information, timely decisions and your team’s capacity to execute.

Direct access to my judgement.
Clear ownership of the work.

You work directly with me on strategy, priorities and performance.

A regular weekly leadership meeting keeps decisions moving. Monthly reviews connect marketing activity to commercial goals. Questions and updates are consolidated so we can focus our time on the issues that matter.

A coordinator supports scheduling, follow-ups and organisation. Your internal lead manages your people and day-to-day execution.

Helping a national franchise group build internal capability.

In a previous engagement with an Australian franchise group supporting around 30 franchisees, Cam worked with head office to review its marketing, clarify priorities and strengthen its ability to manage specialist support.

Over the course of the engagement, the business development manager became better equipped to direct offshore specialists and take ownership internally.

That experience helped shape the principle behind this offer: build capability inside the business and work towards a planned handover.

For established businesses ready to strengthen
how marketing is led.

This engagement is designed for businesses with a proven product or service, existing customers and the resources to act on an agreed strategy.

It is particularly relevant when:

  • Your marketing team or suppliers need stronger direction.
  • Head office oversees marketing across several locations.
  • A founder, CEO or business development manager is carrying too much of the marketing responsibility.
  • You want to strengthen your internal team or develop offshore capability.
  • You have someone who can take ownership—or are prepared to appoint that person.
  • You can fund implementation alongside the fractional CMO engagement.

You do not need a perfect team before we start. You do need leadership commitment, access to the relevant information and people who can carry out the agreed work.

Your fractional CMO

Work directly with
Cam Roberts.

I bring more than 30 years of sales, marketing and business experience to the decisions your business needs to make next.

My work spans business ownership, marketing strategy, agency delivery and fractional CMO engagements. I understand how easily marketing becomes a collection of disconnected activities—and how much difference clear leadership can make.

I work with founders, CEOs and leadership teams to question assumptions, focus resources and give their people a practical direction.

With this engagement, the aim is clear: strengthen your marketing leadership and help someone inside your business carry it forward.

Your questions,
